From Cyprus Sunsets to UK Club Nights: The Rise of DJ Josh Masters
From Balearic-inspired house grooves to high-energy UK garage and underground club nights, Hertfordshire's DJ Josh Masters is making his mark on the UK dance music scene.
With an infectious energy behind the decks, an instinct for reading the crowd and a passion for all things house, DJ Josh Masters has established himself as a familiar name across Hertfordshire's thriving electronic music scene.
His musical journey began in 2011, inspired by the sun-soaked nightlife and unforgettable party atmosphere of Cyprus. What started as a love for dance music quickly developed into a passion for DJing, setting Josh on a path that would take him from intimate local venues to major festival stages and underground events.
More than a decade later, his enthusiasm for music remains as strong as ever, with a growing reputation for delivering sets that keep dancefloors moving from start to finish.
A Sound Built for the Dancefloor
At his core, Josh is a house music enthusiast. His signature sound brings together driving tech-house grooves, powerful basslines and tightly mixed rhythms, creating an atmosphere that builds energy throughout his performances.
But what really sets him apart is his versatility.
Rather than limiting himself to one genre, Josh thrives on taking audiences on a musical journey. His trademark "Vibe Takeover" sets move effortlessly between classic house anthems, UK garage, R&B, bashment and nostalgic club favourites.
It's this ability to understand the crowd and deliver the right track at the right moment that has helped him become a popular fixture on the local circuit.
A major influence on his musical direction is legendary house DJ and producer Armand Van Helden. Josh cites him as his ultimate inspiration, with his distinctive basslines, infectious grooves and unmistakable dancefloor energy continuing to shape Josh's approach to DJing.
Making Waves Across the Festival and Club Scene
Over the years, Josh has built a strong presence across Hertfordshire and beyond, regularly performing at established venues including The Mulberry Tree in Stevenage Old Town and The Brewery Tap in Ware.
However, his ambitions extend far beyond the traditional club circuit.
One of his standout festival appearances came at TRYFEST in Letchworth, where he joined an impressive programme featuring Craig David, Sigma, Gok Wan, DJ Spoony, General Levy and Artful Dodger.
Josh brought the sunshine sounds of Ibiza to the Bora Bora Stage with a Balearic-inspired house set before stepping things up to headline the VIBE Central Takeover in the festival's exclusive VIP Village Arena.
His ability to switch between uplifting daytime house and high-energy late-night sounds demonstrated exactly why he continues to attract attention.
Josh also kept the party alive following Old Town Live Festival, headlining the official afterparty at Jacobys in Ware and ensuring the festival atmosphere continued well into the night.
Taking Things Underground
While festival stages have given Josh the opportunity to reach larger audiences, his passion for underground dance music remains an important part of his identity.
As a key DJ behind the VIBE UNDRGRND series at The Red Lion in Stevenage, Josh has helped bring a harder-edged club experience to the local scene.
The event series has showcased a diverse mix of underground sounds, from UK garage to drum and bass.
Its UK Garage Edition saw Josh perform alongside the legendary B15 Project, while subsequent events explored the heavier sounds of drum and bass before moving into darker territory for the REDRUM Halloween Special.
Another major moment came with the 3AM Underground Event at Practice Roomz, a fully immersive, filmed club experience inspired by the intimate atmosphere of Boiler Room performances.
The event sold out in advance, highlighting the appetite for authentic underground dance music and the growing community supporting Josh and the scene around him.
Bringing the Energy to Subjam
Josh's passion for music doesn't end when he leaves the club.
Through his regular appearances and guest mixes on 1047 Subjam, he takes his signature sound beyond the dancefloor and onto the airwaves, reaching house and garage enthusiasts through DAB and online broadcasting.
His radio sets offer listeners a taste of the same energy, creativity and musical variety that define his live performances, blending fresh underground selections with familiar favourites.
For those unable to catch the broadcasts live, Josh's mixes are also available through Mixcloud, allowing listeners to revisit his sets and enjoy his music whenever the mood strikes.
His involvement with Subjam reflects the station's commitment to supporting DJs who share a genuine passion for house, garage and underground music.
The Journey Continues

With more events, performances and radio appearances on the horizon, Josh Masters continues to push his sound forward while staying true to the music that first inspired him.
